1.0 [ Introduction ] The Mage Arena is a Minigame that is deep in the Wilderness. The danger is more then offset by the rewards for beating the Mage Arena. The rewards include a cape and staff from whichever God you choose at the end. The staff permits you to cast that particular God spell, once you have cast it in the Arena one hundred times. The spell is one of the most powerfull spells in Runescape, and it onlly requires 60 Magic!
2.0 [ Requirements ] There are several items you will need for the Mage Arena, these include:
- You must have at least 60 Magic.
- Level 37 Prayer is recommended for the Protect from Magic prayer.
- Prayer Potions if you plan on using Prayer.
- Knife, or other weapon with slashing ability.
- Runes depending on the God you choose:
Saradomin:
200 Blood Runes, 200 Fire Runes, and 400 Air Runes
Guthix:
200 Blood Runes, 100 Fire Runes, and 400 Air Runes
Zamorak:
200 Blood Runes, 400 Fire Runes, and 100 Air Runes
- Runes, depending on the attack spell you choose to fight Kolodion with.
- Food, Lobsters or better.
- Armour with a good Magic Defense and Attack bonus.
3.0 [ Getting There ] Getting there is one of the harder aspects of the Mage Arena. You must go through very the very high levels of the Wilderness before you reach the Wilderness. Here are two ways of reaching the Mage Arena:
- Walk all the way to one of the Member's Gates, then to the Arena:
An alternative to this is walking in a F2P'er server/world to one of the gates, then switching to a Member's server/world, as there are less F2P PK'ers.
- Teleport from Ardougne to the Wilderness using the Teleport lever in the house just North of the entrance to West Ardougne:

Then walk to the Arena:

There isn't really a best route, Method two is faster for sure, but there is the added danger of teleporting into a blind zone, which is a popular place for a Player Killers to prey on other Players. But using Method One could take all day to get to the Course, however it is much safer, especially if you go through the Wilderness on a F2P server/world. There is also the option of using Ancient Magicks to teleport deep in the Wilderness, then walk, but you have the added danger of going through the wilderness with items you don't care to loose.
To get into the Arena, you have one route if you haven't started the Minigame yet and beaten Kolodion. You must go to where the Minigame symbol

is on the map, but there's two webs in the way! Slash those if you have a knife or other slashing weapon. Once you are past the two webs, pull the lever to be teleported to a safe spot where there is Kolodion, Gundai, and Lundail.
Gundai is a banker, just talk to him and ask to access your bank.
Lundail is a Rune Salesman, he sells most Runes:
Prices:
| Rune | Price |
| Fire Rune | 4 Gold Pieces Each |
| Water Rune | 4 Gold Pieces Each |
| Air Rune | 4 Gold Pieces Each |
| Earth Rune | 4 Gold Pieces Each |
| Mind Rune | 3 Gold Pieces Each |
| Body Rune | 3 Gold Pieces Each |
| Nature Rune | 224 Gold Pieces Each |
| Chaos Rune | 91 Gold Pieces Each |
| Law Rune | 281 Gold Pieces Each |
| Cosmic Rune | 50 Gold Pieces Each |
| Death Rune | 201 Gold Pieces Each |
4.0 [ Fighting Kolodion ] Once you get into the Arena, bank and get out stuff to fight using Magic, some runes for combat Spells, Armour that has a good Magic Defense Bonus, as well as Attack Bonus, good food, Lobsters or above (you don't really need food or good armour if you are going to use Prayer), and if you have 37 Prayer, 5-6 Prayer Potions. Now talk to Kolodion, and he will tell you about the Mage Arena, once he asks you if you want to fight, say yes to start, he will teleport you into the Arena, but don't worry, while you are fighting Kolodion, you can't be attacked by any one else.
Kolodion has five forms, which all use Magic, so using the Protect from Magic prayer will keep you from getting any damage at all. Once you kill him in one form, he will transform to another, more powerful form:
Form 1: Kolodion
You don't actually need to use Prayer for this fight if you are high enough combat.
Form 2: Ogre Giant
This form is tougher, but easily beaten
Form 3: Giant Spider
You should put on Protect from Magic if you haven't already done so. This fight will go easily if you use Prayer.
Form 4: Level 45 Wraith-Man
Quite easy with Protect from Magic.
Form 5: Level 112 Black Demon
While this is by far the hardest form, the fight goes fast and easy if you use Prayer.
Once you have defeated all five forms of Kolodion, you will be teleported back to the Mage Arena Bank area. Now go to the Sparkling pool in the Northeast most corner of the room and step into it.
5.0 [ Choosing Your God ] After stepping into the Sparkling Pool, you will appear in a large cavern, North of you is a Staff salesman. Keep going North past him, and you will come to a large cavern with three statues in it. The three statues are of the three main Runescape gods:
- Saradomin:
- Guthix:
- Zamorak:
Once you have chosen your God, pray at one of the Statues, and a cape will appear on the ground in front of you, pick it up, and go back to the Staff merchant, he will then give you the staff of your chosen God for free!
5.0 [ Using Your Staff ] Once you have your staff, head beack to Kolodion, and talk to him, he will tell you that in order to use your staff outside the Arena, you must cast it one hundred times inside the Arena. To get insid the Arena, you must leave the Mage Arena Bank area using the lever, then slash the two webs, and go out to the front entrance and slash that web, then go inside the Arena. Inside the Arena itself, there are several Battle Mages, each wielding a God Staff, and each casting that God's Spell. The Battle Mage with the Spell you are weilding will not automatically attack you, however, all the others will. The Battle Mages are level 54, and can hit up to 30 with the God Spell.
The following is a list of the Staffs you can get, and what spell they cast.
Staff | Spell | Description | Casting Requirements |
Saradomin Staff | Saradomin Strike | Aside from the incredible damage inflicted, Saradomin Strike can cause the targets Prayer to be temporarily lowered.
Guthix Staff | Claws of Guthix | Aside from Claws of Guthix's damage, the spell can temporarily cause the opponents Defence level to be lowered.
Zamorak Staff | Flames of Zamorak | Aside from the power of the Flames of Zamorak, the spell can also cause the targets Magic level to be lowered.
All spells have a recrirement of 60 Magic, and give 61 Magic Experience when cast, they also have a maximum of 20 damage, unless, you use the Charge Spell:
Spell | Description | Recrirement | Runes |
Charge | Increases the God Spells maximum damageto 30 for 7 minutes! | Level 80 Magic
Once you have unlocked your staff, you can go back to the Staff Merchant and buy another Staff from him for 80k Gold Pieces. You can have all three of the Staffs at one time, but you can only have on God Cape at a time, once you have a cape, to get a different one, you must drop the one you have. Here are the bonuses for the God Staffs, and Capes:
| Item |
| Attack | | Defence | | Other |
| | | | | | | | | | | | | |
Saradomin Cape | + 0 | + 0 | + 0 | + 10 | + 0 | | + 1 | + 1 | + 2 | + 10 | + 0 | | + 0 | + 0 |
Guthix Cape | + 0 | + 0 | + 0 | + 10 | + 0 | | + 1 | + 1 | + 2 | + 10 | + 0 | | + 0 | + 0 |
Zamorak Cape | + 0 | + 0 | + 0 | + 10 | + 0 | | + 1 | + 1 | + 2 | + 10 | + 0 | | + 0 | + 0 |
Saradomin Staff | - 1 | - 1 | + 6 | + 6 | + 0 | | + 2 | + 3 | + 1 | + 6 | + 0 | | + 2 | + 0 |
Guthix Staff | - 1 | - 1 | + 6 | + 6 | + 0 | | + 2 | + 3 | + 1 | + 6 | + 0 | | + 2 | + 0 |
Zamorak Staff | - 1 | - 1 | + 6 | + 6 | + 0 | | + 2 | + 3 | + 1 | + 6 | + 0 | | + 2 | + 0 |
You cannot wear two different god's items at the same time, so if you try to put on a Zamorak Cape while wielding a Guthix Staff, you will not be able to, because the two god's items conflict with each other. This also works if you are wieling a one of the god's Prayer Books.
6.0 [ Frequently Asked Questions ] Q: Is the Mage Arena useful for training?
A: - No, as the danger from being in the Wilderness out ways the experience you would get from being there, plus the Battle Mages only drop bones.
