Think of others while using a cannon. Try to use the least crowded area or world you can find so you aren't disrupting the play of others. This also helps you avoid confrontations from less mature players.

Walkthrough

A Pirate's Life for You...

1) Talk to Bill Teach in the Port Phasmatys Inn, and agree to help him escape the Port alive and become a Pirate.

Then go meet him on his ship, which is docked on the Pier to the East. Tell him you are ready to go, and you'll set sail. You'll be attacked almost immediately, and Bill will want you to cripple the enemy by destroying their cannons.

Crippling the Enemy...

2) Head downstairs and search the Repair Locker to get two ropes. Grab a fuse from the Gun Locker, and grab the Tinderbox off the ground nearby. Now go back up to the deck, and climb the Climbing Net, use one of your ropes on the Hoisted Sails, and you'll swing over to the enemy's ship. Use the fuse with the barrel next to the cannon, then light it with your tinderbox. Now climb up the Climbing Net, and use the rope you have left on the Hoisted Sail to swing back over to Bill's ship and talk to him.
(Note, if you didn't grab two ropes, there is one lying on the ship that you can use to get back over).

Fixing the Leaks...

3) Bill now wants you to fix the leaks that the enemy put in your ship. Go down below deck, and get a hammer, six repair planks, three swamp paste, and thirty tacks from the Repair Locker. Now, use two planks on a leak, then use the swamp paste to fix it, do that to all three leaks. Now go and talk to Bill.

Plundering the Enemy...

4) Grab two ropes from down below again, and swing over to the other ship, loot the crate, plunder the chest, and ransack the barrel until you have six pieces of plunder. Now go back to your ship, and stick it into the Plunder Chest below deck, and head back to plunder one more time. Grab four more pieces of plunder, and return to you ship to put it into the Plunder Chest. After you put ten pieces in it, it will then be full, and you can talk to Bill again.

Fixing the Cannon...

5) Bill will want you to fix the cannon now, so take of the broken barrel and head below deck. Get a new Cannon Barrel from the Gun Supplies, and use it with the cannon to fix it. Now head back to Bill and ask him what to do next.

Sinking the Enemy...

6) Bill wants you to sink the enemy ship now! Head below and grab a fuse, ramrod, and canister. Head back up, and grab some gunpowder from the powder barrel. Now it's time to load the Cannon. Now, you must load the cannon properly or it will explode again, here is the procedure (Be sure to clean it after each use!):

  1. Put some Gunpowder in it.
  2. Push the powder in with the Ramrod.
  3. Insert a canister (or whatever you will fire).
  4. Put a fuse on it.
  5. Light the fuse and fire!
  6. Use the Ramrod to clean the cannon out.

Do that with the canister, and fire it at the ship when a pirate is passing in front of it, you'll injure the crew. Now go down below and grab three cannonballs, and three fuses. Fire all the cannonballs at the enemy ship, following the same procedure that you did with the canister. In your chat box, it will tell you if you've hit the boat or not, you need to hit the boat three times, so if you miss, go back down, and grab another fuse and cannonball. The boat will sink after the third shot, and Bill will sail you into Mos Le'Harmless.
